CLEVELAND (AP) — Police say a 2-year-old girl was wounded in a drive-by shooting that occurred on Cleveland’s east side.
Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia says the toddler was shot in the head and arm around 7 p.m. Friday on East 146th Street in the city’s Corlett neighborhood. She was with her mother when the unidentified driver opened fire.
The girl was rushed to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in unstable condition. Ciaccia says the victim was in surgery for several hours before she was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Officers are following up on several leads, but no arrests have been made.
Three children younger than 5 years old were killed in drive-by shootings on Cleveland’s east side during a four-week span last year.
