CINCINNATI (AP) — Monthly passes are coming to Cincinnati’s streetcar system as transit officials try to obtain federal authorization to permanently change the fare structure.
A spokeswoman for the agency that oversees streetcar operations announced the limited-time offer this past week.
Riders beginning in May will be able to buy passes for June, July and August.
Transit officials are seeking federal approval for monthly passes, but the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority says it’s allowed to run a special promotion.
Officials say the offer will be “a good test” to see if riders actually want monthly passes.
The streetcar runs a 3.6-mile loop through downtown, connecting the riverfront and the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood.
