Raina, a 1-year-old spayed female brown tiger 7.2-pound Domestic Shorthair mix cat, joins S’more, a 4-year-old spayed female tan, white & chocolate brown 61.4-pound Labrador/Hound mix, as this week’s featured Cat and Dog of The Week available for adoption at the Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC) located east of Delaware on U.S. 36/Ohio 37.

Raina, like a lot of well-loved cats who live with people, was either abandoned or became lost. When her rescuer found her on February 26, Raina was scared stiff and appeared to be feral. When she was brought to the HSDC we found a friendly soul hiding beneath that scared facade. Raina is doing well, but she is still checking out all comers to the shelter, so bring lots of love and patience when you visit with her. When you visit, come prepared to start out with some quiet time with this sweet little cat — or adopt Raina and spend lots of forever time with her in your home.

The adoption fee for cats is $60. Kittens (6 months old and younger) are $85.

S’more is like her namesake. She is just as sweet as her name sounds and she is chocolate brown with a little tan and white just like a s’more (she is pretty sure that’s why they gave her that name!). S’more, who was found by the Delaware County Dog Warden and brought to the HSDC, is a friendly dog with a great personality. She loves being outside and taking nice long walks. S’more seems O.K. around other dogs and would do well around older children. Is there a dog in your future? S’more would love to find her forever home and she is hoping that it might be with you!

The adoption fee for dogs is $115. Puppies (6 months old and younger) are $130.

Winter Shelter Hours

Winter shelter hours (Sept. 1 through April 30) are Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The shelter is closed to the public on Monday.

The HSDC cannot process adoptions after 5:30 p.m.

Surrender Waiting List

The Humane Society is operating from a waiting list for the surrender of all animals. Please contact the shelter to be put on a waiting list if you have an animal you need to surrender. The mandatory surrender fees are $40 per dog, $60 for a litter of puppies, $25 for a single cat/kitten and $40 for a litter of kittens.

HSDC Needs

The shelter is in need of foster homes for kittens, dry kitten food, scoopable clumping car litter and laundry detergent as well as postage stamps, 55-gallon trash bags, distilled water, hand sanitizers, paper towels, file folders and copy paper.

Support the HSDC by dropping off your used aluminum cans in the shelter’s barn. We recycle them and use the money we receive in return to support our work toward helping homeless cats and dogs.
