Buckeye Valley locks down Lakewood

The Buckeye Valley boys soccer team didn’t get off a ton of shots, but found the back of the net on two of three en route to a 2-0 Division II Central District tournament opening-round win over host Lakewood Monday night.

“It was a good win against a good team,” BV coach Eric Staley said. “Nathan Chwalik and Aspen Schneller kept Will Ogg, their 24-goal scorer, in check all night.”

The teams combined for just six shots, but the Barons made their three count. Bill Daily scored what proved to be the game winner in the 27th minute, beating the keeper to the short side on what was the only shot of the first half by either team.

Anthony Seliskar added a little insurance in the 72nd minute, catching the keeper leaning to the left off a restart and slipping one through.

“There was very little space to work with, so we had to convert the few chances that we got,” Staley said.

The 14th-seeded Barons, who improved to 11-5-0 with the win, will look to punch their third straight trip to the district semifinals with a win over Heath Thursday at Buckeye Valley. The action is set to start at 5 p.m.
