Olentangy Liberty nabbed runner-up honors at CSG and Hayes finished third in Worthington to highlight Saturday’s Division I girls swimming and diving sectional championships.

The Patriots were powered by Kate Saczawa, just a freshman, who won the 100 backstroke in 59.67 seconds. Saczawa was also a member of Liberty’s first-place 400 freestyle relay team, teaming up with Rachel Peroni, Lila Leary and Ally Braun to finish with a time of 3:38.87.

Dublin Coffman won the team title with 217 points while Liberty and Hilliard Darby smoothed out the top three with 204 and 144.50, respectively.

Olentangy and Olentangy Orange joined Liberty at CSG, finishing fourth and sixth with respective point totals of 141 and 130.

Orange’s Natalie Johnson’s picked up an individual sectional title thanks to her first-place performance in the 500 freestyle (5:12.99).

Meanwhile, in Worthington, Hayes finished third while advancing to the upcoming district showcase in 10 different events.

The Pacers closed with 166 points behind first-place New Albany (323) and runner-up Westerville Central (188.50).

Hayes standouts included Brooke Glesenkamp, Danielle Ward and Kristen Puthoff, who picked up a trio of top-three finishes. Glesenkamp finished third in the 50 freestyle (24.70 seconds), Ward nabbed third-place points in the 100 butterfly (59.38 seconds) and Puthoff finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:23.88).

The Pacers’ 400 freestyle relay team (Ward, Valerie Keller, Puthoff and Glesenkamp) also earned third-place points (3:45.09).

Big Walnut was in action in Worthington, too, finishing 14th with three points while Buckeye Valley nabbed 61 as a Division II school.

Gianna Garnett and Kimberly Langhirt led the Barons. Garnett advanced to districts in the 50 free and 100 fly while Langhirt moved on in the 100 fly and 100 back.

BOYS SWIMMING

Hayes advanced to districts in 11 different events while finishing third at Saturday’s Division I sectional meet in Worthington.

The Pacers collected 169 points. They were joined in the top three by New Albany (225) and Watkins Memorial (181). Big Walnut was also in action, finishing eighth with 74 points while Buckeye Valley, competing in Division II, secured 77.

Hayes was led by Noah Planisek, who nabbed runner-up honors in the 50 freestyle (22.42 seconds); Kael Gannon, who finished second in the 100 butterfly (54.54 seconds); and Craig Klumpp, who finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.19) and third in the 200 IM (2:06.42).

The Pacers also finished second in the 200 freestyle relay as Gannon, Lucas Pape, Andrew Parker and Planisek combined to finish in 1:32.15.

The Golden Eagles were led by Wesley Hammond, who won the 500 freestyle (4:52.65) and finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:48.72).

Buckeye Valley’s Jacob Fisher, meanwhile, won the 500 freestyle in D-II action (5:45.49).

Back at CSG, Orange’s boys finished fourth with 121 points, Liberty closed fifth with 99 and Olentangy ended up right behind its two district rivals in sixth with 78.

Top performers included Orange’s Mason Reid, who finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.62); and Olentangy’s Benjamin Kuriger, who closed third in the 200 freestyle (1:47.67) and third in the 100 butterfly (53.04 seconds).
