A Licking County woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend in Delaware County.

Officials from the Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Tea M. Woods, age 18, of Newark, died in the crash that occurred around 5:10 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 23 in Troy Township.

According to troopers, Woods was a passenger in a 2001 Jaguar S-Type driven by Austin R. Guy, age 20, of Newark. Investigators said Guy was traveling southbound on U.S. 23 when he drove left of center and struck a 2007 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer operated by Verne E. Thompson, age 50, of Hazel Park, Michigan.

Woods was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Coroner. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to investigators.

Thompson was treated and released at the scene by Delaware County Emergency Medical Services.

Guy was transported to Grant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers are still investigating the crash. Whether alcohol or drug use was a factor remains unknown, troopers said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County EMS, and Tri Township Fire Department.
