DGHD: 7 new COVID-19 cases in 24-hour span

Delaware County has 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus, the Delaware General Health District announced Friday afternoon.

On Thursday, there were 15 cases, making Friday’s number the biggest jump in cases since the outbreak was first announced by the DGHD on March 18.

There are two people now hospitalized, up from one on Thursday. There have been no deaths in Delaware County due to the coronavirus.

The DGHD reports the age of those who have tested positive ranges from 1 to 82, with a median age of 48. Of the cases, 55% are female and 45% are male.

The DGHD website states there were 566,269 confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide as of 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, with 127,768 recoveries and 25,423 deaths. The United States now has the most confirmed cases with 92,932, followed by country of origin, China, with 81,897.

The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,137 confirmed cases in the state as of 2 p.m. Friday, up from 867 the day before. The number of hospitalizations due to the virus rose to 276, with 107 individuals being admitted into ICU. Nineteen people in Ohio have died from COVID-19.

According to the ODH, the age of the cases range from under a year old to 96 years old, with a median age of 52. Of the cases statewide, 52% are male and 48% are female.

The most cases have been reported in Cuyahoga County (330), followed by Franklin (152), Mahoning (68), Summit (65), Hamilton (63), Lorain (56), Lucas (48), Medina (32) and Miami (32).
