Bishops’ Hurst in field for AFCA Good Works Award

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Josh Hurst was one of 178 players nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, it was announced by Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team honors college football players at all levels of the sport for their selfless acts of giving back to the community and off-the-field achievements. The 2024 Good Works Team will be comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the NAIA, and an honorary head coach. The final roster of 23 award recipients will be unveiled in September.

Hurst, a wide receiver, was a second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection last year.

Hurst led the NCAC in receptions (75) and ranked third in receiving yards (810), third in receiving yards/game (81.0), and 12th in TD receptions (5), and tied for 12th in all-purpose yards (81.0/game) in 2023.

Hurst was named Newcomer of the Year and was a second-team All-NCAC selection in 2022. Off the field, Hurst is involved with the Second-and-7 literacy program and hosts his own local skills camp for high school and youth athletes in Port Clinton, Ohio.

Ohio Wesleyan opens its season on Saturday, Sept. 7, when the Bishops host Otterbein at Selby Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
