The Sunbury Planning and Zoning Commission heard an informal presentation from Hitachi Astemo at its meeting on May 28.

General Manager John Carl and Plant Manager Chuck Hallman from Hitachi “gave a brief overview of what Hitachi Astemo produces at their facilities, other facility sites, and the overall sales in the North American Region,” minutes said. The company will expand its Sunbury plant with occupancy planned by year’s end. The Gazette covered the Hitachi Astemo groundbreaking earlier in August.

The nearby Ohashi plant also has a proposed expansion.

Also discussed was the Sunbury Parkway District Master Plan. It was said the alignment was determined by the Ohio Department of Transportation, with construction to begin in 2025. This will be an addendum to the City Comprehensive Plan.

Districts within the parkway “will include a neighborhood residential district, neighborhood mixed use district, gateway residential district and the gateway mixed-use district,” staff said in the minutes.

The City’s Planning and Zoning Commission consists of Nancy Crawford, Joe Gochenour, Councilman John Grumney, Vice Chair Debra Miller, Chair and Mayor Joe St. John, and Jason Staderman. The June 18 meeting included the annual Debt Profile summary, 2022-2023 audit update, contractors for tree and concrete work at the Sunbury Estates subdivision and plans to purchase furniture for the Municipal Building.
