Letter: Now is perfect time to join Delaware County Buyers Club

The Delaware County Fair will soon be here. 4-H and FFA exhibitors are busy preparing their market projects for show and for the Junior Fair Sale auctions. Many local businesses, individuals, and organizations show their support for the youth of the county by making purchases at the auctions held at the fair. This year’s dates are Tuesday, Sept. 17, and Wednesday, Sept. 18. New bidders are always welcomed and can received a bidders’ packet by contacting Katie Meade at [email protected].

In its 10th year of existence is an alternative for the business, individual or organization who is unable to attend the auctions or who would like to pool their contribution with others. This is called the Delaware County Junior Fair Buyers Club. In its first year, the club had over $4,000 to use to purchase projects, and they purchased nine entries. In 2023, $8,400 was spent, and t13 different projects were purchased. The Buyers Club does not purchase grand or reserve champions. Since its establishment in 2015, almost $60,000 has been spent, and 100 different exhibitors have had their projects purchased by the Buyers Club. Any animals purchased by the Buyers Club are resold, maximizing the investment made by contributors.

Scott Hagerty, former 4-H poultry exhibitor, says, “I recall the excitement of auction night and seeing my hard work pay off. Being a member of the Buyers Club allows me to support today’s 4-Hers even when I can’t attend the fair and the sales.”

Anyone interested in becoming a member can find the application form on the website of the Delaware County Fair (delawarecountyfair.com) under the Junior Fair tab. Donations can be made anytime, including the week of the fair.

Be a member of the Delaware County Buyers Club to support the 4-H and FFA youth of Delaware County and invest in their future!
