Senior forward Jaggar Brooker had a goal and an assist for Ohio Wesleyan as the Bishops defeated second-ranked Kenyon 3-0 in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex, handing the Owls their first loss of the season.

The loss also ended Kenyon’s NCAC-record unbeaten streak in conference games at 60 dating back to the 2016 season.

The Bishops had a scoring chance midway through the first half when junior forward Christopher Guerra freed Brooker on a breakaway, but Owl keeper Jack Pedreschi left his line and blocked the shot.

Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the 34th minute when Brooker sent the ball from the left end line to freshman midfielder Logan Lewarchick, who finished the chance in front.

Senior back Brady West had a chance to add to the lead in the closing seconds of the first half, but his header off a free kick was stopped by Pedreschi.

Early in the second half, freshman back Alex Bucher drew a foul inside the penalty area, and Brooker stepped to the spot and converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0.

Ohio Wesleyan added to the lead in the 61st minute when a Bishop corner kick bounced off an Owl defender and into the Kenyon goal.

“It was a great team effort,” said Bishop head coach Jay Martin. “We’ve been having trouble playing with intensity, so we made some changes tactically, and hopefully we can continue playing like this going into the rest of the conference season.”

Kenyon outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 11-8. Junior goalkeeper Sam Whitman recorded 4 saves in posting the shutout.
