The Olentangy Liberty boys golf team, thanks in part to Noah Andry’s 71, is headed back to the Division I state tournament thanks to a solid showing at the district showcase earlier this week at Apple Valley.

Andry started strong, carding a 34 on the front nine before a 37 on the back half smoothed out his scoring summary. The 71 was good enough to tie Dublin Jerome’s Brady Barnum for the top spot among individuals.

Other Patriot standouts included Noah Mulford, who finished with a 74; Mitchell Corbin, who had a 76; and the duo of Jackson Harris and Trevor Leeds, who each had 77s.

Jerome won the team title, using a 290 to edge out Liberty and its combined 298. Thomas Worthington, which had a pair of Cardinals in the top five, nabbed the third and final state-qualifying spot with a 299.

Big Walnut and Olentangy Berlin were also in action, as was Olentangy’s John McClelland, who fired a 74 before winning a thrilling seven-way playoff for the second of three qualifying spots.

McClelland birdied the second playoff hole to win while Upper Arlington’s Bric Baird secured the final spot with a birdie on the third. Big Walnut’s Ethan Krebs was also part of the playoff, but saw his solid junior season come to a close.

The Golden Eagles, who also counted scores from Nathan Tripp (75), Tyler Goetzman (79) and Jacob Spann (84), finished eighth with a 312.

The Bears were 12th with a 342. Owen Heilmann led the way with an 81 while Lucas Patrick (86), Landon Brown (87) and Jack Schwaigert (88) also chipped in.

The D-I boys state tournament is slated for Monday and Tuesday at the NCR Country Club in Kettering. The girls’ tournament, which will include Liberty’s Olivia Aronhalt and Olentangy’s Meadow Tian, is set for the same time and place.
