Upper Arlington took advantage of a turnover to take a halftime lead, but Olentangy Orange turned the tide in the second half, using a pair of touchdowns to rally for a key 28-20 OCC-Central Division win Friday night in Lewis Center.

Down 17-14 at the break, the Pioneers (7-1, 3-0) got a stop to start the second half and promptly scored to take the lead for good.

Quarterback Levi Davis moved the chains on a fourth-and-two play from midfield with a run up the middle and, a few plays later, found Beckett Miller open in the end zone for a 13-yard scoring strike to make it a 21-17 game with 4:06 left in the third quarter.

Davis looked like he was going to run, but stopped just short of the line of scrimmage before firing a strike to Miller for the score.

Orange, looking to make it a two-score game late, got inside the five-yard line on its next drive, but Davis fumbled at the two.

It didn’t matter, though, as the Pioneers landed what proved to be the knockout blow a few minutes later.

After the defense held thanks to a big tackle by Xavier Baker on a third-down screen, Orange regained possession at its own 33 with 2:39 left.

A few plays after that, on a third-and-six, Davis all but sealed the deal with a 63-yard touchdown run. He got to the edge, slipped through a hole and outran the defense down the sideline.

The Bears (6-2, 2-1) got a 36-yard field goal with five seconds left, but that’s as close as it would get.

Orange started fast as the opening drive was set up by a nice return by Treyton Schroeder before a pass to Zane Konczak picked up a first down into Golden Bear territory. A deep pass to Terryn Thomas set up a first-and-goal from the one and, one play later, Cohen Weaver powered into the end zone to give Orange a 7-0 lead just over a minute into the action.

UA got even with a touchdown on its opening series, answering with a one-yard TD run by QB Kyle Cox. The first five plays of the drive were all runs, including a fourth-down conversion by Jaden Chindavong at the Golden Bear 39. The TD run by Cox also came on a fourth-and-one play.

After the Bears used a good chunk of the first quarter to score, the Pioneers came back in a hurry. A 24-yard run by Weaver set up a first and goal from the four and, a play later, he powered into the end zone to make it a 14-7 game with 41 seconds left in the quarter.

Upper Arlington got a little closer with a 23-yard field goal off the foot of Edward Oakley with two minutes left in the half and, on Orange’s next possession, Jake Braun stepped in front of a quick pass by Levi Davis and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown.

The pick six made it a 17-14 game at the break, but Orange had all the answers in the second half.

The Pioneers got whatever they wanted on the ground. Davis finished with 20 carries for 179 yards and a touchdown while Weaver had 107 yards and two scores.

Alek Diller led UA with 90 yards rushing while Cox completed 10 of his 23 passes for 110 yards.

Big Walnut 32, Westerville North 31, OT

Nolan Buirley scored from a yard out in overtime to make it a one-point game, then powered in for the successful two-point conversion as the Golden Eagles outlasted the host Warriors in Friday night in Westerville.

Big Walnut (7-1, 5-0) led 24-17 after Eli Stumpf found Brody Hatfield for a fourth-quarter score, but North (4-4, 3-2) got back to even when Jonathan Stevens found the end zone down the stretch.

Ronald Jackson scored from four yards out to give the Warriors a 31-24 lead in the extra session before Buirley’s heroics lifted the Eagles to the win.

Buirley finished with 31 carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns while Stumpf completed 16 of his 21 passes for 175 yards and the score. Hatfield was his top target, finishing with four grabs for 56 yards and the TD.

Delaware Hayes 34, Dublin Scioto 25

Favour Akih ran for 217 yards and three touchdowns while QB Caleb Rowe ran for 100 yards and a score of his own to lead the Pacers to an OCC-Capital Division win over the visiting Irish Friday night in Delaware.

Hayes (6-2, 3-2), down 10-0 after one, used a pair of second-quarter touchdowns to get back into things. Rowe broke the scoring seal with a 10-yard TD run before Owen Willis put his team on top with a three-yard run.

Akih took over from there, adding a touchdown in the third and two more in the fourth to cement the win.

Olentangy Berlin 27, Dublin Jerome 20

Aiden Eviston threw for 212 yards and a touchdown and added 71 yards and three scores on the ground as the Bears notched an OCC-Cardinal Division win over the host Celtics Friday night in Dublin.

Alejandro Aguilar had a big night as well, catching three passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Chase Cone had an interception and Angelo Johnson recovered a fumble in the end zone to lead the Berlin (6-2, 3-0) defense.
