Big Walnut, Hayes take top 2 spots at OCC showcase

Big Walnut’s Leigha Kay and Delaware Hayes’ Cali Kent took the top two spots at Saturday’s OCC-Capital Division cross country championship meet in Westerville, leading their respective teams to top-two finishes in the process.

Kay took top honors in 19:15.88 while Kent crossed the finish line exactly a second behind her to nab runner-up honors. The Pacers’ Addison Reed finished third among individuals in 19:49.11 while the Golden Eagles’ Leighton Coey was fourth in 19:50.12.

Big Walnut won the team title with 32 points. Hayes was second with 44 while Westerville North smoothed out the top three with 95. Other teams in action included Worthington Kilbourne (96), Westerville South (113) and Dublin Scioto (152).

The Eagles also got solid showings from Grace Buskirk (sixth in 19:57.62), Natalie Ghering (eighth in 20:22.15) and Sydney Ulrey (13th in 20:35.63) while the Pacers got top-15 finishes from Kiriana Iannetta (ninth in 20:22.30) and Gigi Leiter (14th in 20:52.38).

OCC-Central Division championship

Olentangy Liberty junior Elena Aldrink won a conference crown while Olentangy Orange’s Brooke Chapman finished second at Saturday’s OCC-Central Division championship meet in Hilliard.

Aldrink nabbed OCC bragging rights with an effort of 17:32.39 while Chapman wasn’t far behind, crossing the line in 17:37.64.

Liberty finished second with 58 points while Orange rounded out the top three with 85. Hilliard Davidson won the team title with 33. Others in action included Upper Arlington (102), Dublin Coffman (105) and Hilliard Bradley (165).

Other top Patriot point producers included Katie Boettcher (10th in 19:30.14) and Madeline Pohmer (14th in 19:46.40).

Cecelia Pachko (27th in 21:02.89) and Cat Szasz (28th in 21:04.89) backed Chapman to make up the Pioneers’ top three.

OCC-Cardinal Division championship

Olentangy Berlin finished third and Olentangy closed sixth at Saturday’s conference championship meet in Hilliard.

The Bears, who finished with 68 points, were boosted by the trio of Grace Heitkamp (19:37.89), Claire Heitkamp (19:52.13) and Georgia Speelman (19:55.38), who took spots seven through nine, respectively.

Bella Coyle led the Braves, finishing 36th among individuals in 21:39.22.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Matthew Schroff took top honors and Bradyn Allender finished third to lead Orange to an OCC-Central Division title at Saturday’s championship meet in Hilliard.

Schroff’s mark of 15:50.74 was nearly seven seconds better than runner-up Jacob Bolton’s 15:57.34. Allender, meanwhile, finished third in 16:03.64 while Cowen Allender was 10th in 16:22.59.

Orange won with 37 points while Liberty, which also had three runners in the top 10, finished second with 49.

Patriot standouts included Zeid Rabi, who finished fifth overall in 16:15.09; Gordon Kimberly, who was seventh in 16:19.85; and Louie Perry, who was close behind in eighth with an effort of 16:20.03.

OCC-Capital Division championship

Hayes finished fourth and Big Walnut closed sixth at Saturday’s OCC-Capital Division championship meet in Westerville.

Austyn Fox was the Eagles’ best performer, finishing 14th among individuals in 16:51.34. Nathan Ward was also solid, crossing the line 17th in 17:01.33.

As for the Pacers, Aidan Green led the way with a 16th-place performance (16:59.06) while Alex Boey closed 20th (17:09.08).

OCC-Cardinal Division championship

Olentangy Berlin’s Vansh Sethi and Olentangy’s Braydon Nix nabbed a top-10 finishes to lead their respective teams at Saturday’s OCC-Cardinal Division championship meet in Hilliard.

Sethi was eighth in 16:15.53 while Nix closed ninth in 16:26.77.

Overall, the Braves were fifth with 129 points while the Bears closed sixth with 132.
